MPT for TFS 2010

Dec 26, 2009 at 10:49 PM

Are you plan to publish updated MPT, based on TFS 2010 features?

Thank you.

The current plan is to release a new version of the Microsoft Process Template that works with TFS 2010 and takes advantage of new features.  There will be a few changes like taking advantage of SQL 2008 Reporting Services, real work item hierarchy (instead of simulated,) Test Case Management, and more.

I'll publish more details when we have some more information.

Do you have any estimate of a timeline when you expect to publish the 2010 version?

I am in the process of brining up my 2010 environment and trying to define a template to use for our projects and it seems like this would be a great starting point.

I don't have an update just yet about when the 2010 version of the Microsoft Process Template will be made available.  Feel free to review the 2008 version for the different concepts that are available to get you started in designed the template you want to use.  Parent/child links exist in TFS 2010 so the simulated hierarchy in MPT 2008 will be removed.  Be sure to also take a look at both the MSF Agile v5.0 and MSF CMMI v5.0 process templates to look for ideas.

I am also waiting for the update version of MPT for TFS 2010, hope this can be announced soon.

I'd also be interested to get my hands on MPT for TFS2010. With TFS2010 in production, what are the chances to see an updated MPT in the near future?

At the moment, I don't have any information about the availability of TFS 2010 version of the MPT.  I'll be sure to update everyone on this CodePlex site as well as on my blog: when we have more information to share.

Is there any update on having a version of the Microsoft Process Template that works with TFS 2010?

I don't currently have an estimated date just yet but we are working currently on packaging up the TFS 2010-compatible version of the MPT along with the tools that are needed.  More news to come!

Thanks for the update Ed. Can't wait to hear news about how we can go ahead and get a copy of the workitems/queries/workbooks/etc from the MPT 2010. With 2008 we didn't just apply the MPT to projects but we studied the template and gleaned some really cool "ahas" about how we should go about making customizations to our process templates.

Thank you for your efforts and Microsoft's efforts to get this out to us.

Any thoughts or feedback on how the process is going? Is this still underway and being worked on? Hoping to take a look at this in the near future.

Hi Allen,

Absolutely it is continuing to be worked on and is full steam ahead.  Realistically, it won't be available in the near future or even by the end of the year.  I'm hoping that we will have it packaged up and ready for the public shortly after the new year.  Hope that helps with your planning efforts!

Bummer to hear that it's going to take so long....[A full 3 months of prep work sounds like an intense effort]. But I guess I'll have to eagerly wait and keep my eyes open. Is there any chance you/Microsoft can put together a lessons learned document around the "gotchas" you learn during the migration/packaging process? That sure would be helpful.

Thx for your efforts...please let us know along the way how the effort is going or if the effort is abandoned(god knows how many codeplex projects never get released].

How goes the process are you stil planning to have the template available in early January? Would love to see this sooner rather than later.

Any feedback/thoughts/schedule? Is there an early preview I could get my hands on?

Still working with Microsoft around the release... No additional details at the moment.

Hey Ed,

Any insight into timing from Microsoft, anything you can share?

Hi Allen - no additional details at the moment.

Have two questions:

1) Will MPT 1.0 work with TFS 2010?

2) Once MPT 2.0 comes out what will the upgrade plan be (assuming that #1 is supported)?

MPT is really neat and cannot wait for 2.0 on TFS 2010 to be out. I'd be willing to try out beta if need be in our production environment.

Hi manag,

1)  MPT 1.0 will not work with TFS 2010

2)  That is to be determined.  I suspect we will have some type of upgrade path.  Upgrading team projects is unfortunately a tough story using any process template so I'm not sure where we will be as for as MPT 1.0 --> MPT 2.0 upgrades.

No betas of MPT 2.0 are currently available.

Thanks for your reply Ed. I will wait impatiently for MPT 2.0 :-).
